Doing so is usually a wise way to save money over time, but you must be careful. Does the vehicle have remaining manufacturers' protection? If not, are you getting any more than 1,000 miles or 30 days of protection? Most previously existing extended warranties cannot be written on a vehicle with more than 70,000 or 80,000 miles. Some of the "certified pre-owned" vehicle programs extend your engine & powertrain coverage to 7 yrs. or 100,000 miles, but you are done after that.
